Now, as everyone who knows me knows, I do not watch things like Britain’s Got Talent and X-Factor. I see it as a bunch of wannabes who want instant fame and fortune without having to work for it. And there are plenty of jobbing musicians and entertainers who have more talent in their little fingers that deserve a break more than those wannabes.
However, with all the hype surrounding Susan Boyle, I had a little watch of her performance of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ and was pretty blown away. I wasn’t blown away for same reason as the judges – looks do not make up for talent! What amazed me was the effortlessness with which she sang. This is not an easy song to sing and she nailed it and made it look like anyone of us could get there and sound as brilliant!
Her version of ‘Memory’ in the Semi-Final was not, in my opinion, as good. However, let’s put this in perspective. Susan Boyle has been literally flung into the media spotlight with the eyes of the world on her – it’s a fair comment to say she may have been a little nervous about her semi-final performance! Who wouldn’t be with that much attention on you? Her opening notes were a bit wobbly and a there were a few flat notes at the end, but she nailed the key change and belted it out – and it’s not easy to pitch a key change when you are not singing straight before it.
So, in conclusion, all you naysayers, get off her back. If you don’t like her, don’t vote for her but she’s done nothing to deserve some of the vitriolic comments that are floating around the web. Maybe she deserves to win, maybe she doesn’t, but Susan Boyle – you done good!!
