If anything proves why there is still a problem with prejudices about the Muslim faith, this report explains why http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wiltshire/8437658.stm.
The majority of us appreciate what our servicemen and woman do, despite the politics which we may or may not agree with.
Our servicemen and woman may not believe that they should be doing the job they are doing, but they do it because it is their job.
Wooton Bassett is their home – where they can be mourned and thanked for their sacrifice without bringing politics into it. It should remain exactly as that.
I very much doubt that a march would be allowed, but it shows the lack of understanding by this group as to what the gatherings are for in Wooton Bassett. It is not celebrate deaths in Afghanastan but to thank the servicemen and woman for their sacrifice regardless of their own political beliefs.
Now, we live in the UK so there is “freedom of speech” as long as you don’t offend any minority group, so if this group want to hold a march to honour the civilians that have died in Afghanistan then I suppose they have a right to do so. But not at Wooton Bassett.
There are some things that are still massively British, although less and less so, and these are things that overshadow religion. And if you don’t like it, then maybe you should reconsider living in this country. If your religion is more important than your liberty, then maybe you should relocate to a country more aligned to your faith.
If you want to get sympathy from the British public and highlight your cause, you need to learn how to appeal to the British public. Antagonising them in this way will only serve to ostracise you and you cause.
What I suppose I would actually like is the march to go ahead, no-one turns out even to tell you all to sod off, and no media coverage. That would probably be a result! But can you imagine the media NOT reporting on it…
